project overview

The goal was to support customers and staff by enabling mobile ordering inside the restaurant and ensuring efficient order distribution among employees. To achieve this, the project combined industry research, competitor analysis, and insights from real operational challenges. The result is a system that improves coordination, reduces errors, and gives each role the information they need to work effectively.

the Approach

The process began with a mix of market analysis, logistics documentation, and case studies from industry leaders. This helped identify common operational patterns, automation opportunities, and pain points in fast-paced food service environments. To complement this, interviews with supervisors and restaurant staff provided direct insights into daily tasks, communication gaps, and the need for clearer, real-time information.

Based on these findings, the tool emphasizes automation and role-specific visibility. Orders are auto-assigned, supervisors can reassign or monitor tasks, and clear flows with instant alerts help employees respond quickly.

The UI was built to prioritize speed and clarity. A vertical menu allows users to customize their navigation, and the main workspace adapts to each role: supervisors see overall performance and order progress, while employees receive step-by-step instructions for their station. This structure ensures that everyone accesses only the information relevant to their responsibilities, improving focus and reducing errors.

FOR THIS PROJECT, THE DESIGN OF INTERACTIONS AND COMPONENTS WAS INFORMED DIRECTLY BY THE NEEDS AND WORKFLOWS OF THE RESTAURANT STAFF. THE INTERFACE FEATURES LARGE, EASILY TAPPABLE BUTTONS, ALLOWING EMPLOYEES TO INTERACT WITH THE SYSTEM EFFICIENTLY WHILE HANDLING OTHER TASKS. CONTENT IS TAILORED TO EACH USER’S ROLE, ENSURING THAT EMPLOYEES SEE ONLY THE INFORMATION RELEVANT TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES. NOTIFICATIONS ARE CUSTOMIZABLE TO PRIORITIZE CRITICAL UPDATES, SUPPORTING SMOOTH COMMUNICATION AND QUICK RESPONSES.

FUTURE STEPS WOULD INCLUDE USABILITY TESTING WITH REAL USERS, COLLECTING FEEDBACK ON EFFICIENCY AND CLARITY, AND ITERATING ON THE INTERFACE TO CONTINUOUSLY REFINE BOTH INTERACTIONS AND ROLE-SPECIFIC WORKFLOWS.

Conclusion

The final prototype strengthens coordination, boosts productivity, and streamlines service from start to finish. Future steps include usability testing, developing an MVP, and iterating with real data to refine both functionality and performance. This project highlights the impact of combining user-centered research with operational design to create tools that enhance both workflow and business outcomes.
